Gain of Function Research Ought to be Criminalized

I have never been an advocate of over-criminalization of much of anything. I'm a limited government proponent. My default response to any problem is, 'can we solve this problem with more freedom, instead of less?' We should always at least ask the question. I think this is one of the rare instances where I think the answer is 'no'. 

It seems to me that if the government has any role in this SARS COV-2 goat rodeo, it should be not just a pause in government sponsored viral gain of function research (holy crap, I'm paying for that?), it should be to ban outright, with the same moral indignation as global warming prohibitions, any gain of function research whatsoever. It isn't a matter of if it will get loose, it's when. That is unacceptable. I think the good doctor bears some direct responsibility for the COVID pandemic in the first place, and again with his malpractice in the handling of it. 

In the video from my previous post, it is pointed out that gain of function research can be used for the monetary gain of actors such as Bill Gates and Anthony Fauci, which ought to be a conflict of interest, but worse than that, for state-sponsored biological warfare development. We ought to have treaties outright banning this kind of work. 

 

Kakistocrat of the Year Award

The suspense has been building all year. Who will it be? Well, who else? Last year's winner -- Teh Won, the only, the most selfie president in history, Emperor PotUS himself, Barack Hussein Obama!

I should probably list some of the other kakistocrats that were in the running for the KotY awards.

1. Kathleen Sibelius -- Responsible (or not) for the worst roll-out of a government program in the history of the nation since prohibition. I decided against her because what she had to work with was so bad to start with. Besides, who was responsible for giving her a job that she was unqualified for (hint: BHO)? And who was responsible for creating an environment in which managers are hesitant to tell the CEO that the project was coming in over budget and over schedule (hint: BHO)? Kathleen is pathetic, is all. She may be a kakistocrat, but her boss takes the cake on this one.
2. Harry Reid -- Responsible for invoking the "nuclear option", breaking a rule that has governed Senate procedure since the body was founded. In a political ploy to stuff the courts with 'progressive' judges, he simply changed the rules to suit his whim. So much for a nation of laws. That is very unstatesmanlike behavior (the definition of a kakistocrat).
3. There were other, distant runners-up, such as Eric Holder (who might be a bigger kakistocrat than Sibelius), but Sibelius beat him out in sheer luzerdom. Reid narrowly beat him out in sheer craven-ness. Others, too numerous to mention, populate the halls of Congress and the Senate.

This year's award has to go to the KotY-LotY-PotUS, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama. The serial supra-constitutional executive orders; the doing an end-run around Congress to delay phasing in ObamaCare until after the pivotal mid-term elections was a very shameless bit 'o constitutional vandalism. The politicization of the Trayvon Martin affair was also a very kakistacular stunt.

The thing that really clinched it for me was the Lie of the Year (LotY): "If you like your health care plan, you can keep it." (and the corollary, "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.") Period. End of story. Although the lie was told ad nauseum in 2012, it was largely responsible for KotY-LotY-PotUS-BHO's re-election. So it really didn't take effect until 2013, and many people didn't really find out about it first-hand until 2013. Therefore, the effective date of the lie was 2013. (I should point out that I knew it was a lie -- or at least a falsehood -- when I first heard it, based simply on my knowledge of economics and government track records on every social program in history.)

Here's the thing about lies: I really don't like to call something a lie when it is merely a mistake (cf. the "Bush lied; people died" meme). But this was no mistake. KotY-LotY-PotUS-BHO himself might not have known it was a lie. Obama is nothing more than a text-to-speech converter -- mindlessly reading whatever appears on his TelePrompTer. (We could fix a lot of problems with this regime simply by putting the Constitution on his TelePrompTer.) But whomever was responsible for programming KotY-LotY-PotUS-BHO had to know it was a lie, because even a casual reading of ObamaCare would reveal that it could have no other effect. Frankly, no matter how insulated KotY-LotY-PotUS-BHO might be, it is hard to imagine him not getting at least a whiff of the lie that was, "If you like your health care plan, you can keep it." I can imagine Sarah Palin saying, "I can see Obama's Pinocchio nose from my house!" Hell, I bet we could see the nasty thing from the international space station.

KotY-LotY-PotUS-BHO was lying his keester off. Here's your award, KotY! You've earned it!

Obama: I Go Shooting All the Time

Barack Obama says, "I go shooting all the time".

I'm sure you do, Mr. President. According to this article, you're a "keen clay pigeon shooter". I have no doubt that your infringement on the second amendment would not apply to single-fire shotguns and trap loads, as long as they're safely locked up at the gun club when not in use. And be sure to use hearing protection.

Mr. President, I hope you see that the Second Amendment is really about this, and not some meaningless "right" to blast little ceramic Frisbees out the air at some exclusive gun club as a diversion (although that's also covered, as luck would have it).

I'm sorry, but this just makes you look insular and pretentious.

I Am Not a Tyrant

President Obama made these comments during the unveiling of his Second Amendment infringement yesterday:

There will be pundits and politicians and special interest lobbyists publicly warning of a tyrannical, all-out assault on liberty — not because that’s true, but because they want to gin up fear or higher ratings or revenue for themselves. And behind the scenes, they’ll do everything they can to block any common-sense reform and make sure nothing changes whatsoever... ~  Barack Obama

Not because that's true? Mr. President, of course you don't think you're a tyrant because,

The problem that I fear we are facing is the one our founders debated at great length when they were designing the American form of government: Are Americans virtuous enough for self-rule? Or, do we require an elite governing class to make us do the right things, against our baser instincts?

I am sure that some folks will scoff at the suggestion that we need to be "virtuous". What an outmoded concept! It's so... nineteenth century! That’s a problem with our culture, not the concept. With liberty and freedom comes great power -- including the right to keep and bear arms -- dangerous! Yes, but,

With great power comes great responsibility ~ Voltaire, Churchill, Roosevelt, Spider Man

The word "virtue" might be a bit dated, but "responsible" isn't. If there are too many irresponsible people walking the streets these days, we may not be responsible enough as a culture to enjoy freedom anymore, as President Obama seems to be suggesting. 

Sadly, Obama may be right. Our culture selected him (a second time!) in part, because he offered to take responsibility for things that we should be doing for ourselves -- at a great cost to our freedom. I fear we are seeing only the tip of the iceberg.

Barack Obama's Weird Socialism -- The Movie

Last night, I went to see 2016: Obama's America. It's the first time I've set foot in a movie theater since I became disgusted by the high cost to view the overt left wing propaganda and gratuitous culture rot that Hollywood passes off as entertainment.

Within days of first listening to Barack Obama speak, and watching his presidential campaign unfold, I diagnosed him as a self-serving socialist sociopath. That brings us pretty close to having him figured out, but not entirely.

During Barack Obama's 2008 campaign, and early in his first term, many people were puzzled by his "apology tour", and with his apparent obsession with taking America down a notch on the world stage. Even while most socialist nations are quite nationalistic (e.g., Nazi Germany -- "Nazi" is the German-language diminutive for "National Socialist"), and the USSR (The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) was certainly aggressively nationalistic, Obama seems to want to implement a kind of meek socialism for the United States. It seems weird until you see the movie, 2016: Obama's America. I have read Dinesh D'Souza's articles about Barack Obama's dreams from his father before, so this wasn't news to me, but many people are getting this information for the first time.

Barack Obama senior was a rabid Kenyan anti-colonialist. He may have been justified to some degree. As Dinesh points out, our founders were also anti-colonialists. Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and others resented British colonialism in America. The dominant (some may say "hip") political ideology at the time was The Enlightenment, a.k.a., Classical Liberalism, which is where we got our founding principles of natural law, freedom and individual liberty, as most elegantly expressed in The Declaration of Independence and embodied in The Constitution of the United States.

The big difference with modern anti-colonialists is that the current hip political ideology is collectivism, a.k.a., communism, a.k.a., socialism. Once you understand that Barack Obama is attempting to fulfill his father's obsession, on which Obama has doubled down by obsessing over his father, then you understand Obama's agenda. The odd thing is, the United States was not founded on principles that would promote colonialism. Naturally as a world power, we do sometimes have to exert more influence worldwide than we might like, but as Colin Powell noted in 2003,

We have gone forth from our shores repeatedly over the last hundred years and we've done this as recently as the last year in Afghanistan and put wonderful young men and women at risk, many of whom have lost their lives, and we have asked for nothing except enough ground to bury them in, and otherwise we have returned home ... to live our own lives in peace.

For Barack Obama though, it doesn't help that he was mentored by communist, anti-colonialist, anti-American tutors, radical friends, radical ministers and radical professors. It isn't surprising that we have the most radical, most anti-American, anti-capitalist president in US history. What is stunning is that the media has so far downplayed these influences.

Fortunately, the movie 2016: Obama’s America has stunned Hollywood, opening at #1 in theaters on Friday. People will see it, and get the information that the mainstream media has strenuously attempted to suppress.

Kakistocrat of the Year 2011

It seems only fitting, on a blog named, "Rage Against the Kakistocracy" that we feature an annual Kakistocrat of the Year. I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't think of it last year, when I would have nominated Nancy Pelosi. Thanking God that she's no longer Speaker of the House, I am obliged to nominate someone else. Barney Frank comes to mind, but he's such a caricature of idiocy, that he hardly needs the help. Besides, he's resigning.

And so, for all of these reasons, and more, I think Barack Obama deserves this year's honor. To paraphrase James Madison, to implement Barack Obama's agenda would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators.
