At 5:53 p.m. Eastern Time today, the House moved to repeal health insurance reform.Now, I have been known to point out that "lying" may be the most overused word in American politics today, when "mistaken" or "having bad data" or even "having an opinion different from mine" would be more accurate. However, this OFA claim is simply a bald-faced lie.
Every single Republican -- all 242 -- voted for repeal.
This is a vote for insurance companies. There is no other way to put it.
Because if the question is what is best for Americans, repeal would never come up: Health reform is already at work improving the lives of millions of people. Repeal will result in 32 million fewer Americans with health coverage -- and add $230 billion to the deficit over the next 10 years.
Republicans in Congress need to know there's a political price to pay for siding with special interests over the constituents in their districts.
The Republicans were swept into office because We the People were weary of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid pedal-to-the-metal tactics and the 'progressive' agenda, especially ObamaCare. They were repudiated. There is no other way to put it. And now the cleanup begins. Many of those new Republican faces are tea party supporters, or tea party supportees, who believe that the Constitution is still the official specification for the United States of America, and maybe we should start following it, once again, undistorted, with liberty and justice for all.
The Republicans voted specifically for the interests of their constituents, and only for the insurance companies insofar as the free market is one of our founding principles.
The vote was 245 to 189, which means three Democrats also voted to repeal ObamaCare. It isn't a great showing, but it is interesting.
Joan, that is completely predictable. It comes right out of the 'progressive' play book. And they are heavily invested in ObamaCare, so it doesn't surprise me that they are lashing out.
ReplyDeleteOur job is to stay on message: Just ask them, "Which article of the Constitution gives you the authority to do this?" If they cannot give you a credible answer, then it's back to the drawing board for them.
The US Constitution is still the official specification for the United States of America, and maybe we should start following it, once again, undistorted, with liberty and justice for all.
Good Blog, One addition positive thought---we have produced an actual petition to repeal the Obamacare act. It goes through the state legislatures as required by Article V of the Constitution. This takes it totally out of the hands of the Congrsss and POTUS. If 34 state legislatures request an Article V Convention otherwise known as a Constitutional Convention, then the Congress "shall call it" and a totally different group of delegates in a different place under different authorities will study, debate, possibly make minor modifications and then hopefully pass it as a proposed amendment to the Constitution. It will then be sent to the fifty states for ratification. If 38 ratify it, it then becomes the law of the land. It does not require or allow any further action by the Congress, the President, or the Supreme Court.

Click on the picture of the Constitution which will take you to the Contents. Scroll down to near the bottom to "Need to Rescind the Affordable Health Care for America Act", an erroneous title, That will take you to the article just prior to the actual petition which also is mistitled as "Petition to Rescind the Affordable for America Act".
That will give you the basic content of the petition but to get an up to date revision send us an email request and we will quickly send you a email copy which you can print out, complete and return to us by mail or by scanning the completed and signed copy into your computer and then email it to us at: thejewelofdemocracy@comcast.net. ReplyDeleteLet me get this straight: Voting against a bill that MANDATES that everybody have insurance is a vote 'for'?!? insurance companies? Oh my goodness. How stupid do they think we are? Which insurance giant was going to get the big government contracts to furnish all that 'guaranteed' coverage anyway? Ridiculous!
And you're right. It was good to see the republicans on the right side of an issue for a change.
The Democrats (which should rightly be named the 'new communist reform party') almost never get it right and the Republicans (which should be named the 'new socialist reform party') has not done much better in the last 50 years or so.
You can lay our present situation squarely on the back of our legislatures regardless of whether there was a democrat or republican majority government got bigger, more intrusive, created greater debt, and dismantled American industry.
