I noticed this little news item today. If that doesn't spoil your lunch, here's a link to the national debt clock. They have it broken down in numerous categories, including cost per taxpayer. Swallow your coffee and cover your keyboard before you click, because you might just puke.
For a long time, I have been saying that it is inhumane and politically unfeasible just to terminate 'progressive' big government programs and institutions, and that we should phase them out instead. However, I fear that due to years of mismanagement, and despite plenty of warning, that decision may already have been made for us. I believe that the laws of economics will do what they always do, and like the law of gravity, bring unstable things crashing down under their own weight -- with all of the associated (and predictable) pain and suffering.
Many commentators believe that the pain and suffering will cause the populace to demand relief, allowing 'progressives' to usher in their socialist dystopia. Some commentators believe that this was by design (Cloward & Piven). If so, then that practically is the definition of evil.
Attention, politicians running up the debt in such an irresponsible manner, and mortgaging our children's future: Where in the Constitution did We the People give you the authority to do that?
