On the morning of January 8, 2011, I intentionally entered a gathering held by Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and shot her at near-point-blank range. I injured fourteen others, killing six -- among them a beautiful, curious, doe-eyed, nine-year-old girl. I didn't actually pull the trigger, but I'm as guilty as the psychopath who did.
Here are just a few of the charges against me:

The Arizona Tragedy
ReplyDeleteThroughout our history there have been seminal events that have served to UNIFY our nation. Some examples are the attack on Pearl Harbor, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and of course the attack of September11, 2001.
In each case ALL Americans stood UNITED in our resolve in our national condemnation of evil and in our collective grief for the fallen. Throughout history America has shined brightest WHEN WE STOOD UNITED.
And yet, THERE ARE THOSE WHO WOULD SEEK TO DEVIDE RATHER THAN UNITE. Before the victims of the actions of a deranged young man in Arizona have been laid to rest; there are some politicians who are trying to take political advantage using a form of tortured logic that ascribes blame for the tragedy to so called “right wing extremist” TV and Radio personalities.
I, along with most right thinking Americans find this type of political gamesmanship reprehensible and contrary to our national ethos. Now is not the time for politics of any kind. Now is the time for NATIONAL UNITY- in grief for the fallen and appreciation for the survivors.
I find it particularly incredulous that these same politicians would attack the Tea Party and some of our most high profile leaders and spokespersons for what were clearly the actions of a deranged person.
Friends, I for one, will not allow this shameful political practice diminish my resolve to continue to speak out against unresponsive politicians who value their own political agenda above the will of the people. My weapon will not be bullets but rather something much more powerful…the pen and the ballot.
May God bless America and may God have mercy on the victims and families of the Arizona Tragedy.
